(Okay, that's a lie. She loves to tease her sister, but she knows when she should and shouldn't do that.)
Even so, Elsa sets down the bag she just picked up and crosses her arms. She doesn't look stern exactly, but she has to put her big sister foot down on this!]
Ohhhh no, Anna. You don't have to make your own cake for your wedding. I can take care of that, okay?
no subject
Well, I don't know, I just figured...everyone else will be so busy taking care of stuff, I can just take care of the cake myself! That way nobody else needs to worry about it.
no subject
I can understand wanting to help, but... that's your big day. One of the biggest days of your life. You should only have to worry about what kind of dress you're going to wear, or who you want to invite...
[There's a pause, and she laughs a little at the irony of the words she's about to say.]
It may be a little hypocritical of me to say, but... it's okay to let us handle everything. Just focus on yourself, and on Lorna.

When she comes back up, there's a little bit of sap glistening at the corner of her eye, which she hastily rubs away.]
Okay, I think I see your point. [She laughs.] I'm just...still not used to letting people do things for me, you know?
no subject
And here I thought the disaster I caused during your birthday celebration last year would help with that... [She tries to laugh it off, but it comes out a little awkward.] Anna, I don't mind saying it as many times as it takes...
[To show how serious she is, she reaches out to take both of her sister's hands in her own.]
I'll do anything for you. From baking a cake all the way up to, if need be, helping to fight for a way out of this world. You only need to ask.

[It's still one of her favorite memories, honestly.
But her expression doesn't fade into something more sad, but something more...buoyed. It's a reminder she needed to hear.]
Thanks, Els. And...the same goes for you, y'know. Wherever you go, whatever you do...I'll be right by your side, okay?
no subject
[It was absolutely worth the killer headache from overworking herself so much the following morning.]
I... I know. [Her smiles are usually a little more subdued than Anna's, and it's pretty obvious here.] I wish I realized that sooner. Back home... I wonder how much heartache we could've avoided if I'd just listened to you whenever you'd say that.
[Even before the disastrous aftermath of her coronation... in those three years between that and the deaths of their parents, there was nothing really keeping them apart except Elsa's own fears and insecurities. If she'd only pushed them aside, for at least one moment....

[She laughs, but her expression is still patient, still as loving as can be as Elsa expresses her regrets. As it turns out, Elsa's not the only one who can give off a stern vibe; Anna levels her chin at her sister with a steely glint in her eye.]
Well, the important thing is that now we both know. What's the point of a mistake if not to learn from it, right?
no subject
[Yeah she's kind of resigned to the fact that any sort of party on her own birthday would mainly be a political thing. Not that it bothers her, with how little importance she places on the day.
At the stern tone Anna takes, Elsa's shoulders slump a little. She may pull the queen and the big sister cards a lot, but that doesn't mean she's immune to that sort of stern talking to. Still... she's spent so much of her life beating herself up for her mistakes that it just feels weird to think of them as some sort of... learning experience, rather than burdens.]
That's... true, yes. And I know I'll do my best to stop something like that from repeating itself. I...
[She almost says I'll die before it happens again but that's. That's a little too much to say in front of Anna.]
No, I won't try my best. I will do whatever it takes to avoid that happening again.
no subject
[She places both hands on Elsa's upper arms, squeezing gently.]
I know, Elsa. Don't worry. I know right in here.
[One hand leaves to place itself over Anna's heart, which pumps sap through her body in place of blood.]
You're...you're my heart, you know that, right?
no subject
Oh, Anna...
[...She fails on that end, but for once, she just... doesn't care. Once the tears start falling, she lets them fall as she pulls Anna in close for a tight hug.]
And you're mine. That's... that's why I was able to make it through all those years. I felt terrible for shutting you out, but even just knowing you were there... that's what kept me going.
no subject
Hey...me too, y'know? Even though I didn't know why...I always figured there was a reason why. Knowing you were on the other side of the door was knowing there was someone out there who loved me.
[Anna sniffles, pulling away, and gives Elsa a watery smile.]
Should, um. Should we get started on this cake?
no subject
... Didn't she?]
Right... right!
[She wants to ask, but Anna pretty blatantly changed the subject. And while Elsa is the queen of dwelling on things until they become problems, she doesn't want to make Anna uncomfortable with digging into their past traumas, so.... cake it is.]
I'll watch as you get everything mixed in, and work on the decorations. Would that be good for now?
no subject
Perfect! The icing is there—
[She pushes a smaller bowl containing plain white frosting toward Elsa.]
Pick whatever colors you want to use, and then you can pipe out the lace design on wax paper! When it hardens, we should be able to peel it off like a decal and wrap it around the cake.
