[A little while after this conversation takes place, Anna is going to receive a message from Elsa.]
Anna! I've been doing some reading on a Pokemon species known as "Rapidash" and I'm starting to think that we need to look for two of our own. Isn't it beautiful? I read the fire doesn't hurt you if Rapidash likes you. I do have ulterior motives, I have to admit. It took a few days for my feet to stop hurting after we got to Cherrygrove. I think a horse Pokemon would help a lot with that. What are your thoughts? I need to dig a little more to find where it likes to live.
[It feels weird to use more than one exclamation mark. This isn't proper grammar!!!]
I had a feeling you would be excited about it. Hopefully it won't take us too long to find them.
We will probably find Ponyta first, if we go looking in the wild. I think that's the pre-evolution of Rapidash. Is that the right word? I need to consult my notes.
First it's through a seemingly endless length of clouds, falling through them and chilling her to the bone with wet mist. Eventually, the cloud layer does finally break, and she's now falling over a world she shouldn't recognize. Fields of green stretch out for miles, little houses that aren't like anything in Arendelle dot the landscape.
But suddenly, something does come up quickly to meet Anna: a well. A well that's so big it looks like it could swallow anything whole, effortlessly.
But there is something in the dark, and it's watching Anna as she falls. And slowly, it comes out of the well, revealing the form of a gigantic, skeletal bird. The monster rears up, opening its beak right as Anna falls in.
It's true she hasn't been sleeping well; her own dreams have been tumultuous and cold, replays of past trauma come back to haunt her night after night. Tonight, the dream almost seems like a nice change, at first, until the clouds soak through her clothes and leave her shivering almost as badly as her other dreams, even worse with the air rushing past her. It would be a relief when she comes through the clouds, except for the fact that she can't find any peace in the scene below her for her fear of hitting the ground. She lets out a piercing scream, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment, but then decides that if she's going to hit the ground, she at least wants to know...
And then she sees the well: the dark, empty mouth of it sends shivers down her spine that have nothing to do with the cold, and those shivers only amplify as she sees the creature rising out of it, its jaws stretching open to catch her—
She wakes up in her hotel bed screaming, a cold sweat under her nightgown, breath heaving. She has no idea what that dream was, or where it came from, but she did not like it one bit—and it takes her a long time to convince herself to go back to sleep after that.
[She asks like they aren't probably staying in the same hotel- she did kind of invite herself along to Goldenrod when she had the opportunity. Just a little extra stoner baggage for the trip.
But like, honestly? She couldn't imagine just. Staying behind when one of the only friends she's made is leaving. She hasn't made a connection with anyone else, not like Anna. And she'd be lying if she said she didn't feel... something.
Chloe isn't gonna define that something, but it's There. Maybe it's her tendency to latch onto people, or maybe it's a Real Something. Maybe she's even still reeling from the fact hasn't seen Max in so long. Or maybe it's because she's finally...settling down after so much craziness back home and she can sort of return to normal.
When's the last time that was a thing?
TL;DR: she's a big ball of weird feelings. Good, but also weird. It's a lot. Being Chloe Price is a lot right now.]
i got something for you and im too impatient to wait til tmrw morning
[Anna's not expecting a message quite so late in the evening—not that she's asleep. She's much too excited about the prospect of a visit from Julenissen to pass out this early. Seeing who it's from, though, gives Anna a little thrill of excitement. She's grown pretty attached to her new friend Chloe, which is funny considering the somewhat antagonistic start they'd gotten off to.]
i'm in my hotel room, duh!!
i have something for you too actually...want to meet me somewhere?? ooh how about the pool!
[She likes it in the pool room. It's echo-y and still and a little eerie at night!]
Honestly Chloe had expected it to be a vaguely awkward one-sided thing where she got Anna a present and Anna would be like "oh nooo i didn't get u anything", so this is pretty much the opposite of that.
It warms her blue lil heart.
The pool, on the other hand? Anna has no way of knowing but she's having hella war flashbacks to that night she and Max snuck into the Vortex Club swimming pool. She could say no, but there's a certain... how to put it- thrill, in repeating past mistakes with pretty girls.]
[There's absolutely no reason for Chloe Price to feel stressed, so naturally she's stressed.
But listen, in her head there's an obligation to like. Do This Right. It's her first Valentine's with Anna, so it's gotta be Good. It's gotta be great, even. She's spent weeks getting stoned and brainstorming this.
All in all she's pretty proud of herself, even if she's stupidly nervous. She stayed up all night last night putting the final touches on it- and even had a little help from Anna's sister, who seemed surprised Chloe would reach out to her like that, but in a good way.
Long story short, she's Ready. This is gonna be Good. It's gotta be.
It's honestly. Way earlier in the morning than Chloe has ever been up, but it's fine- she hasn't been to bed yet. It's fine. It's fine.
Chloe knocks on Anna's door loudly and enthusiastically, probably waking up the neighbors in the process. It's fiiine.]
[Anna, of course, has her own plans for Valentine's Day, but she wasn't planning on enacting them until late afternoon at the very earliest. Which is why she is still passed the fuck out when Chloe knocks on the door.
She jerks awake, drool on her cheek, and blinks blearily in the direction of the door. Her Gothita grumbles next to her, a low, exasperated Gothiiii.]
[Elsa has never looked such a mixture of flustered, excited, anxious and glowing in her entire life. She's still riding a high of emotion, but honestly, she can't not tell Anna. It's just her first instinct. Gotta share with her sister. Gotta.
Gotta talk about it.
Gotta get it out before she explodes.]
Anna! I- I have something to- I have news! Good news!
[When Anna answers, she's sitting cross-legged on Chloe's bed in the hotel room that has slowly just sort of become...both of theirs, a slice of pizza halfway to her mouth. She eyes the camera, eyes the pizza, and then sets it down. Elsa's so excited, this pizza can wait.]
Hey! Woah, woah, what's going on? Did you catch something cool?
[Okay. Okay. Be cool, this is fine. Anna deserves to know in a manner not as dramatic or horrible as Elsa. It's not a big deal.]
Hello, Anna, it's Botan.
[...]
I, uh, I just wanted to tell you that I was friends with the previous versions of you that had been here before. I just wanted to hold off on telling you until you settled in, I didn't want you to get overwhelmed or feel bad. ...All that. So, um, I'm very sorry for not saying anything sooner, and of course I'm not expecting to just pick up where we "left off" as if it's the same, 'cause it's not and I wouldn't force that on you!
[Okay Botan, now you're getting nervous enough to babble.]
[Oh, geez. Of all the messages Anna was expecting to receive today, this isn't one of them. It takes her a little while to reply, mostly because this isn't something she's ever been taught the right etiquette for. Plus, you know. She's bad at etiquette in general.
But eventually, she does reply, and she sounds...nervous? Definitely a little awkward.]
Hey, um, hey, Botan! Sorry I missed your call, um. It's totally okay, I get why you didn't say anything before, 'cause, geez, awkward! But if we were friends before, then definitely we should be friends again! I think I trust my own taste after all, haha!
...Wait, did you happen to send anonymous presents to Elsa and I? If not, ignore me, but we've been trying to figure out who those came from for months...
[Going off on your own on an extended solo vacation to gather your thoughts and whatnot is nice. But as it tends to happen, sometimes you get introspective. That's where Elsa's at right now. At a little seaside cafe, a book propped up on her knee and a small cup of coffee in hand, staring down at words she isn't fully comprehending because her mind isn't on the book, it's on her sister.
Elsa can't help but think of how far they've come. How just eight months ago, they were new to this world. How scary, how strange it was. But Elsa had managed to get by because she'd had Anna. How it was Anna who encouraged her to try new things, to not be afraid of how different everything was. And now how Elsa can't ever imagine going back to what they had before. How they've found their lives here, by some miracle. It's so strange to think about how far they've come.
But it's also easy to worry that things have changed too much. That they aren't spending enough time together or that they don't talk enough. It's irrational, really, but... she can't help it. Not when she's witnessed so many people losing others they care for. Elsa's tried not to think about it too much, to imagine what she would do if Anna were to...
Days like today, when the only thing to keep her company are her thoughts, Elsa deeply, deeply misses her sister. So she sets the book down on the little table in front of her along with her cup of coffee and reaches for her gear.]
I'm not sure I say it often enough anymore, maybe because I've taken it for granted after all this time, but... I love you! and I miss you. How are you doing today?
[Anna's glad, more than anything, that she and Elsa have been able to find their own way in this place. Both together, and apart. Anna has always been independent, and between wanting to spend time with Chloe, and not wanting to bog Elsa down when she has her own goals in Johto, it suits her just fine the way things have been. Still, it lifts her spirits immensely to get a call from Elsa; she's en route to Ecruteak with Chloe at the moment, and when she answers, it's cross-legged from inside their tent, with the sounds of Chloe swearing faintly at the fire pit outside drifting in. Elsa might also notice that Anna's got her hair braided in one thick plait down the side of her shoulder...an homage to her sister, perhaps?]
Hey, you! I'm so glad to hear from you, geez! I love you and miss you, too, so much...
[Anna laughs, pausing to catch a breath.]
I'm doing great! We're halfway to Ecruteak, I think, and the weather has been so nice. How's your vacation going?
